What's New with Super Deluxe?

Get Real
(Jan.  8,  1998)
Manic Pop Thrill has a new home!  I have finally updated the site and moved it to a brand new server where I have been assured unlimited space.  That means more goodies for you!!  Also, I would like to introduce Shane Regan (ermac@blarg.net), who will now be taking care of e-mail and graphic design for the site, and Jesús Segura (mofo@the-any-key.com), who is in charge of media and maintenance.  It all sounds so professional, doesn't it?  Along with this update have come many new things.  First of all, the discography is more complete and thumbnailed.  We still have a lot of work to do on it but it should be all ready to go soon.  Also, there are now seperate sound and video pages.  I removed the .wavs and replaced them with RealAudio and RealVideo files.  The entire "Famous" video is on-line, along with some unreleased live tracks.  I'm hoping to add more soon.  If you don't have the RealPlayer, you will need to get it from www.real.com to view the audio and video.  Other little goodies have been thrown in too, enjoy!

Season's Greetings from Super Deluxe
(Dec. 6,  1997)
This holiday season, Home Alone 3 hits the theaters, without Macauly Culkin, star of the first two Home Alone films.  However, a welcome addition to Home Alone this time around is Super Deluxe's "All I Wanted Was A Skateboard."  The track, a near-classic to Seattle fans, first showed up on Super Deluxe's power-pop Electric Holiday EP over two years ago.  This time around the band has recorded a video for the newly-remastered tune, gaining a lukewarm response from MTv's 12 Angry Viewers.  What's wrong guys, not in the holiday mood?  Either way, expect to hear more of "Skateboard," as it will be the first single from the holiday soundtrack.

New 800 Number
(July 20,  1997)
Super Deluxe now has an official 800 number that you can call to sample the new album, Via Satellite, and win tickets to upcoming shows.  The number was first advertised in the classified sections of the popular Seattle newspaper The Stranger.  The number is 1-800-246-2699.

Via Satellite is released:
(July 8,  1997)
Super Deluxe's sophomore release, Via Satellite, is now available.  More information is available at the discography page.  The album features such songs as "Love Liquid Wraparound," "Your Pleasure's Mine," "Commonplace," "Farrah Fawcett," and a new version of the local smash "Years Ago."

At Last!
(May 1997)
Super Deluxe has finally finished recording the follow up album to Famous, entitled Via Satellite.  A tape of new songs has been circulating well enough for KNDD DJ Marco Collins to find a copy.  According to Marco, the tape has 15 songs and does include "Years Ago."  The album will be available July 8th.

The "Years Ago" explosion:
(November 1996)
Super Deluxe has created an unlikely hit in the Seattle area, namely their beautiful acoustic tune "Years Ago." The amazing part is the track has yet to be released in the United States. The track was part of a basement recording DAT tape that was sent to the Seattle radio station KNDD. It was debuted on the air almost six months ago, along with an acoustic version of "Famous," but just started to gain attention after DJ Marco Collins threw the song on the air during his show. "The version of 'Famous' on here was the only song I really paid attention to... then I put on this tape and I thought 'Wow, what a great song,'" says the DJ Rolling Stone proclaimed as one of today's best. The song is now one of KNDD's most requested songs, sometimes even getting more votes than songs from radio darlings like Bush, No Doubt, and Marilyn Manson.

This "explosion" has caused a problem for Super Deluxe fans. The song is unreleased in the United States. It is only available on the "She Came On" UK single, which is very hard to find in the United States. The single also contains a cover of Supertramp's "Give A Little Bit" and an electric version of "On Lisa." I managed to find a copy at Seattle music store, but people I have talked to have had no such luck. Revolution Records is currently working on getting more copies into the United States, and KNDD will start giving away copies soon. If a b-side like "Years Ago" can create this much hype, it should be interesting when the next album comes out mid-1997.

Super Deluxe goes on-line:
(September 1996)
Super Deluxe now has an e-mail address, superd@revolution.wbr.com. I'm pretty sure the band actually reads this stuff. Also, Revolution records can finally be reached via the internet at info@revolution.wbr.com. This is the place to go if you have information about a specific release or about other Revolution artists. Also, you can check out the Revolution home page at http://www.revolution-online.com.

New "Famous" single released:
(August 1996)
"Famous," the band's first single on Tim/Kerr, has just been released on Revolution. A new video has been shot for the song as well. That's right, there are now two videos for "Famous."

"She Came On" hits the U.K:
(April 1996)
"She Came On," available as a Tim/Kerr 7" single for quite a while in the U.S., has now been released on a CD in the U.K! Obviously, Super Deluxe's catchy and infectious pop styles have finally spread from a little corner in Seattle to the rest of the world (reminds me of a couple other bands...)! The CD features three bonus tracks, with some of their most impressive work. Check out the discography for more information.

"She Came On" continues to grow in the U.S.:
(February 1996)
Sure, we're not talking heavy MTv rotation yet, but "She Came On," is still helping Super Deluxe gain popularity in the states. It has even been featured on two brand new compilations! The first, Alternative Summer, is a great new compilation from Warner Bros. featuring some great bands! Buy it now! Also, the movie isn't that great, but "She Came On" is also featured on the soundtrack to the new movie Kingpin. A good chunk of the song is the actual movie too, during a long bowling scene. It's the first track on this new soundtrack, which also contains Blues Traveler, Josh Clayton-Felt, and a lot of Freedie Johnson, who directed the soundtrack.
