What is IRC?

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a way for people all over the world to with one another.  Chats on IRC take place in channels, which are like chat rooms on AOL or other online services.  However, anyone in the world on the Internet can use IRC, and it is free.

To IRC you need:

1) A connection to the Internet
2) IRC software
3) A name
4) A lot of free time to kill
5) To be very bored (recommended)

If you are reading this, you probably already have a connection to the Internet.  However, if your Internet connection is provided by your work or school, the ports to IRC might be blocked, check with your administrator.  If you don't check first a very large guy might come up to you and give you a bunch of crap for trying to IRC.  I am speaking from experience.

The most popular IRC software for Windows is mIRC, available from http://www.mirc.co.uk/.  It is avaliable for 16-bit (Win3.x) and 32-bit (Win95/98/NT) platforms.  The mIRC homepage above is also a very good place to go for more techincal and detailed information about IRC, this page is just to point people in the right direction.  If you are using Macintosh or some other platform, there are programs such as IRCle, IRCII and others.  You are going to have to find them yourself because I don't use them. :-)

Once you first get connected to IRC, join channel #SuperDeluxe and say hi, and make sure to tell us you heard about the channel from this page (we'll be a lot nicer to you).  It might be a little weird at first, but soon you will be just as addicted to IRC as the rest of us.  Get ready for many sleepless nights chatting with a bunch of people you don't know!

One last thing, just because #SuperDeluxe is named after the band, doesn't mean we talk about them 24 hours a day.  Our channel is just a nice place for fans of the band to hang out in, and you can talk about whatever you would like.  Have fun!
