The re-release on Revolution records has a few general differences. First, the orchestra tuning up at the beginning and the carnival style musical thing at the end were removed. Also, the tracks on the Revolution version have more space between them, and are more exactly tracked. The T/K version sounded more lo-fi, and the music overpowered the vocals at times. The Revolution version fixed these problems, and brought the bass end up a bit.
Here is a summary of some noticeable things on the Tim/Kerr version, and their respective changes to the Revolution version.
Tim/Kerr: The song fades out normally, but segues into "Famous."
Revolution: The song fades out completely, and goes from the left to right
sides as it fades.
Tim/Kerr: The song just starts, doesn't fade in much at all. The background
vocals have too much reverb, so much that it almost disturbs the foreground
vocals. The song abruptly stops.
Revolution: Longer fade-in at the beginning (where else would you have
a fade-in?). The background vocals are more clear, but not as loud. The
vocals at the end are louder. The song fades out instead of abruptly stopping.
The "I don't need this... I don't know why it is..." part was
obviously re-recorded, as the vocals sound different.
Tim/Kerr: The song is tracked poorly, so track 3 has the last second
of "Famous" in it. When the song goes from the spoken parts to
the music parts, the music seems to overpower the vocals. Less drum parts.
The vocals are a little unclear.
Revolution: The first two problems were fixed. More drum parts. A few of
the vocal parts were re-recorded, like the last time Braden goes "she
belived."
Tim/Kerr: Not on Tim/Kerr release.
Revolution: Yep, it's on there.
Tim/Kerr: When the song goes from the spoken parts to the music parts,
the music seems to overpower the vocals.
Revolution: The music doesn't seem to overpower the vocals when it stops
and returns. More drums at the end, and they switch between the left and
right side. Sounds like a couple vocals parts were re-recorded.
Tim/Kerr: The "to darkness" part has a lot of echo. There
are some really unclear backing vocals during the chorus part, they are
obviously saying something else, but I can't understand it. The songs doesn't
fade out much, as it almost segues into "Johnny's Gone Fishin'."
Revolution: The "to darkness" part has no echo. The unclear backing
vocals were taken out. The squeal at the end is much longer.
Tim/Kerr: The drums parts are real cool, but aren't very distinct. There's
this cool little bass bubble wah-wah sound after the first verse.
Revolution: Either more drums were added, or they were made louder, or
something. And, unfortunately, the cool little bass bubble wah-wah was
removed. Sorry, there's nothing I could do about it.
Tim/Kerr: The "good-bye" part has no harmony.
Revolution: The "good-bye" part has harmony.
Tim/Kerr: Guitar on the solo is clean.
Revolution: Guitar on the solo is a little louder and more distorted, it's
cool.
Tim/Kerr: Cleaner guitar parts. No "carry on, yeah."
Revolution: Guitar is louder and more distorted. "Carry on, yeah"
is added in one spot.
Tim/Kerr: The guitar parts are less distinct. Less background vocals.
Revolution: The secondary guitar is little more distinct, especially in
the solo. The vocals on "In this unfamilar place..." are harmonized,
and there are background "Aaaahhhhhh..." vocals.
Note: I get really nit-picky here. It's not that big of a deal, and I'm sure no one really cares that much about all the exact differences, but here you go. It was actually fun to do, kind of like playing "Find the six differences" in the newspaper comics, except for there's no answer key, there's more than six differences, and it's on CDs instead of newsprint.
Cover: The T/K version has yellow sparkleies, and the Revolution has bigger white sparkleies. The word "FAMOUS" is higher up on the Revolution version. On the T/K version, the shadow on the band name goes to the left, and on the Revolution version the shadow goes to the right. From what I learned in my art class in school, this is caused by a different point of origin in the two covers. The spine of the CD lists the album number and the record label on opposite sides.
Back: The Revolution version lists the "Produced by:" at the top right, the T/K version doesn't. The bar code is on the left on the Revolution version, the right on the T/K version. On the Revolution version, the Revolution address is listed on the back instead of the T/K address. And of course, "Love Her Madly" is listed with the songs on the Revolution version.
Inside: The Revolution version has a three-page fold out insert, with an added band picture and a T.V. The Revolution version lists more people under the thanks (including Dave and Jennifer Grohl!), and lists the different places where the changes were recorded and mixed. The second line of the Super Deluxe Fan Club is listed as "1202 E. Pike St., #774" on the Revolution version, while the T/K version says "1202 E. Pike St., Suite 774." However, the address is listed wrong in both versions, because the third line is listed "Seattle WA, 98122-3934," the proper way is "Seattle, WA 98122-3934." If Braden or any of the other guys from the band are reading this, please take note. The back page of the insert, with the record player, has white sparkleies instead of yellow ones, and has "9 24652-2" at the bottom. Behind the CD on the Revolution version, the radio is smaller, says "Super Deluxe" on the front in white letters instead of black, and, of course, has a white sparkley on it instead of a yellow one. The front of the disc itself is not different, except the Revolution version has some copyright junk, and it shows the Revolution logo, the Tim/Kerr logo, and the CD logo.
Besides that, it's pretty much the same.
